PODERE POGGIO SCALETTE became an autonomous winery in 1991, when Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana Assjè di Marcorà purchased on the hill of Ruffoli, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti (Florence), in the heart of the Chianti Classico production area, a number of plots of land and a rural building from a hereditary division and transfer of various real estate assets, including farmhouses, vineyard, olive grove, pasture and woodland, which had been virtually abandoned for years after the death of the former owner.

Podere Poggio Scalette is located on the hill of Ruffoli at about 600 meters above sea level in the municipality of Greve in Chianti and is directed with great passion by young Jurij Fiore under the supervision of his father Vittorio Fiore, a highly respected and internationally renowned winemaker. Vittorio is certainly one of the most distinguished names in the Italian wine world because he contributed to the rebirth of Tuscan oenology between the 1980s and 1990s. After important experiences in San Michele dell'Adige and Conegliano, and after holding important institutional and university positions, he focused all his experience to found his own independent entity. Thus Podere Poggio Scalette was born in 1991, to which a second body was added in 1996, reaching a total area of 40 hectares, of which 10 are dedicated to olive trees, 2 to arable land, 5 to woodland, 8 to buildings and only 15 to vineyards.

The estate has about 25 vineyards with varying southwest and southeast exposures that climb between 350 to 600 meters above sea level.

These hillsides are characterized by the presence of extraordinary dry stone walls that support the vines and olive trees and form small terraces that seem to resemble small staircases (from which the estate takes its name). The vines are very old and that of "Carbonaione," from which a great Tuscan excellence is made, touches 90 years of age. The soils are sandy, very rich in stones, marl and skeleton. In addition, the estate also has small plots in Lamole, whose vines are trained by spurred cordon and sapling, and mainly cared for by Jurij and his daughter Sara. The variety that dominates is Sangiovese, flanked by Bordeaux blends, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Moreover, the Sangiovese of the Podere is not just any variety, but is one of the few and rare clones that has been redeveloped from the original Lamole vine, after phylloxera devastated the area.
