Marchesi Antinori, Tignanello, 2009, 750 ml

Red wines

Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn’t use white grapes. Tignanello is a milestone. It’s produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Description and characteristics

The wine is a blend of 75% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged for approximately 16–18 months in French and Hungarian oak barriques, followed by further bottle aging. The bouquet reveals licorice, violet, spirit-soaked cherries, vanilla, chocolate, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, and harmonious, with smooth tannins and a persistent finish.
